THE POWER OF NOTHINGNESS

THIS IS MY REPLY TO “MEMORIES OF THE FUTURE” IN MY WORDPRESS BLOG:

I also wrote a short comment about my feelings for INDIA SONG many years ago in imdb.com.

After I wrote a comment on INDIA SONG in imdb.com, a few years ago a lady wrote an e-mail to me to say that she also liked INDIA SONG very much, and she also strongly recommended me to watch CET AMOUR-LA, but I still haven’t watched it yet,

After reading your comment on CET AMOUR-LA, I know that this film is a must-see. I can find its DVD in Bangkok. So I will try to find it and watch it.

I have seen only three films directed by Duras: INDIA SONG, NATHALIE GRANGER, and AGATHA AND THE UNLIMITED READINGS (1981, A+). These films were shown at Alliance Francaise in Bangkok. I saw AGATHA AND THE UNLIMITED READINGS without English subtitles. It is in French, and I don’t understand French, but the images in the film are very powerful. The film didn’t bore me at all though sometimes I had to stare at a shot of an empty window or a deserted beach for five minutes. I don’t know how Duras could achieve this -- making shots of “what seems like nothingness” very powerful.

Some comments about Bulle Ogier in AGATHA AND THE UNLIMITED READINGS can be read in this link:

I just watched INDIA SONG for the seventh time in January this year. And I still can’t get enough of it. My two cinephile friends just watched this film for the first time this January, and they were also overwhelmed by this film. One of my friends wishes that INDIA SONG was five-hour long. He doesn’t want this film to end. He also gave me a CD containing the song “India Song” in two versions. The first version is the piano version, and the second version is sung by Jeanne Moreau. I don’t know how he acquired these two versions via the internet, but I enjoyed listening to them very much.

This friend of mine is called “Big”. His blog is here:

I think I shouldn’t gossip about my friend too much, hahaha.
