Thank you very much, Tintin. It’s great to know that you are still reading my blog and that you also have a blog. :-)

I’m afraid I’m not able to write any meaningful reviews for all the wonderful films in BEFF5 that I saw. I think that the most I can do is just typing down the names of the films that I saw. I will try to do it soon.

I also saw your film—PROMETHEAN INVENTION. I don’t understand it, but I also don’t understand most films in this festival. I think your film is thought-provoking, though I think the film might be a little bit too short or too fast for me to understand or follow. (SOMETHING HAPPENED by Keren Cytter, which is my most favorite film in the festival, also makes me think it’s a little bit too short or too fast, too.)

I apologize in advance if I remember anything wrongly. I will try to write about my feelings for your film, or what I think after seeing your film.

First, when I saw the title and the lightning in your film, it made me think of the Greek mythology, though I don’t know much about the mythology in general or about Prometheus.

Then I saw the images of some big voltage towers alternating with the images of lightning. These images made me think about electricity, and made me wonder if scientists can be compared to Prometheus, because scientists can understand the power of the nature (which can be compared to Greek gods) and utilize it. The knowledge that scientists give to mankind is very useful for the survival and the happiness of mankind, but sometimes it is also very dangerous and causes suffering to mankind. (Think about the knowledge about the nuclear power which can cause both great happiness and suffering to mankind.)

Then I saw some images of some famous people. I don’t remember whose images I saw in your film. I remember only two of them—Gandhi and Frankenstein’s monster. (I hope I don’t remember them wrongly). Since I don’t understand the theme of your film, I don’t know how Gandhi is related to your film. But I like Frankenstein’s monster. I had never imagined before that Prometheus could be connected to Frankenstein, but your film makes me think about the connection between Prometheus—Zeus—lightning—electricity—Frankenstein—science or knowledge which may be good or bad.

Then I saw some images of space shuttles blasting into the sky. I like that these images seem to be the opposite of the images of lightning in the beginning of the film. Lightning, which is a kind of nature power, coming down from the sky (which ancient people regarded as heaven) vs. space shuttles, which is a kind of man-made technology, going up into the sky (which people nowadays know that it is not heaven, just empty space.)

I think that what I like the most in PROMETHEAN INVENTION is the connection between things which I didn’t think can be connected, such as Prometheus—Frankenstein. This thing reminds me of a film which I like very much, though I don’t understand it. It is the animation called THE THIRD WINDOW (1997, Hanna Nordholt, Fritz Steingrobe), which is a little bit too fast for me to follow. What fascinates me in THE THIRD WINDOW is the connection between some high-tech weapons and the shape of brassiere!

I’m very sorry, Tintin. I just noticed that you put your film—PROMETHEAN INVENTION—in your blog. I should have watched it again before I commented on it. After I have watched it again, I feel very ashamed of my bad memory. It seems I remembered only 10 % of your film after my first viewing. I hope you don’t take my comment in the post above seriously.

I think it is very good that you put your film in your blog, so that we can watch it again and again whenever we want to. :-)
