Fantasy Triple Bill: HUNGARY MAN BOO (2012, Viriyaporn Boonprasert) + ARNULF RAINER (1960, Peter Kubelka) + THE FOURTH LAND OF HEAVEN (2013, Pramote Sangsorn)

Fantasy Triple Bill: HUNGARY MAN BOO (2012, Viriyaporn Boonprasert) + ARNULF RAINER (1960, Peter Kubelka) + THE FOURTH LAND OF HEAVEN (2013, Pramote Sangsorn)

Inspired by the article "FANTASY DOUBLE FEATURES OF 2012" in Mubi website, Wiwat Lertwiwatwongsa asks us to write something like the article, but by linking a Thai short film we saw in 2012 to any film.

You can watch ARNULF RAINER here:

I would like to screen the films HUNGARY MAN BOO, ARNULF RAINER, and THE FOURTH LAND OF HEAVEN together, because:

1. HUNGARY MAN BOO consists of many interesting parts. One part of it shows only white screen and dark screen alternately for a long time. This resembles ARNULF RAINER.

2. The repetitive madness of ARNULF RAINER reminds me of the repetitive madness of THE FOURTH LAND OF HEAVEN, which shows repeated scenes of a hand pressing a button on a tape recording machine. This scene is repeated many times, possibly about 150 times.

3. Both HUNGARY MAN BOO and THE FOURTH LAND OF HEAVEN use found footage, and both films are political.

ARNULF RAINER can also be shown together with EMPLOYEES LEAVING THE LUMIERE FACTORY (2010, Chaloemkiat Saeyong, A+30), because both films deal with the four basic elements of film: light, darkness, sound, and silence.

Quote from Film Comment magazine, Sep/Oct 2012:
"When ARNULF RAINER had its premiere in Vienna in May 1960, the 300-seat theater was packed. Six-and-a-half minutes later only a dozen people were left."

The photo does not come from the films, but it depicts the Chaipattana aerator, which is presented in HUNGARY MAN BOO.

Fantasy Double Bill: GHOST IN THE CLASSROOM (2011, Ukrit Sa-nguanhai, A+30) + THE HANGMAN (1964, Les Goldman + Paul Julian, A+30)

FANTASY QUADRUPLE BILL: FABLES (2012, Sina Wittayawiroj) + THE FOSTER BOY (2011, Markus Imboden) + MV: DÉSENCHANTÉE -- Mylène Farmer (1991, Laurent Boutonnat) + ELECTRA, MY LOVE (1974, Miklós Jancsó)
