--Talking about politics, I want to quote something from the book FROM HITLER TO HEIMAT: THE RETURN OF HISTORY AS FILM (1989) by Anton Kaes. This book quoted a paragraph by Guenter Kunert. Somehow this paragraph reminds me about something in Thailand.
“Masses of people accept as myth what they would reject if it were suggested by reason. Since we ourselves are personified insignificances, accidental products of a nature that has no particular plan for us, we need metaphysical crutches to carry on at all. That accounts for our strained craving for some sense to our lives, for myth, which gives transcendence to meaningless existence. We want a destiny, even if we have to win it with fire and sword, concentration camps and gas chambers. Before we admit our own nothingness, we will serve the myth with the many names.”
