The Thai Short Film Festival 2008 has started. I enjoyed the films in the first weekend a lot. There are two new filmmakers who shock me with their two films. I love their films very much, but before I mention their names, I just want to mention some other Thai short filmmakers or some Thai short films I love during the past 12 years.
1997
DON’T EVER TOUCH MY BAG! (Surachai + Manorom)
I don’t know the surnames of these two directors, who were students in Chulalongkorn University when they made these films. I haven’t heard from them again. This film was not shown in the Thai Short Film Festival, but was shown in the Student Film Festival in 1997.
1998
SIAM SQUARE (22 min)
I wasted a lot of time trying to search for the brochure of the Second Thai Short Film Festival in my extremely untidy room, but I still can’t find the brochure. Because I don’t have the brochure with me now, I don’t know the name of the director of this film. If anyone knows it, please tell me. This film is a documentary which recorded daily events in Siam Square (if I remember it correctly).
1999
WINDOWS (Apichatpong Weerasethakul)
2000
KAL (TIME) (Uruphong Raksasad)
2001
ROUGH NIGHT (Samart Imkham)
Many films by Manussak Dokmai
2002
LIVING ON SUNDAY (Suparirk Kanitwaranun, 17 min)
2003
UOD DEE (ARROGANT) (Sompot Chidgasornpongse)
2004
BUS STOP (Tosaporn Mongkol)
2005
Many films by Tossapol Boonsinsukh
2006
SPECTRE: 16 YEARS LATER (Prap Boonpan)
2007
Some films by Tulapop Saenjaroen and by Attapon Pamakho
2008
Films by Alwa Ritsila + Komvish Zally
Fortunately, they posted their two films on Youtube. So if you know you share the same cinematic taste as me, watch these two films now. I will not describe them. See them for yourself.

The festival has started? I thought it was starting in August? Do you have any details about it?
As for now, the Thai Short Film Festival is showing more than 400 new Thai short films every Saturday and Sunday at Asylum Room on the third floor of Anarak Building in Silom Soi 3. The showing is from 11.00-20.00 hrs. You can see the map and the program details in Thai at http://www.thaifilm.com . After this, I think they will show the selected new Thai short films which pass the first round in early September. Normally they show the films which pass the first round in August, but I think they move the screening to early September this year because of the Olympics. :-)
