Continuing his quest to bridge the gap between contemporary art and everyday life, Navin Rawanchaikul has produced his first ever film project: Navins of Bollywood.

Directed by emerging Mumbai-based director Naren Mojidra the Navins of Bollywood film is a short musical story that explores the paradox of identity in a global age through the tale of a lonely artist in search for connection and self-knowledge. With humour, suspense and a good dose of Bollywood-style song and dance the story begins with Navin Rawanchaikul alone in his Chiang Mai studio reviewing old works and reflecting on life. When, on the clutter of his desk he finds a mysterious letter with a phone number from someone in Mumbai who shares his name, Navin. The call he then makes sets him off on a Bollywood adventure that may change his life forever...

The Navins of Bollywood film and corresponding hand-painted movie billboard were presented at Diaspora, a cultural programme prepared for the 2006 meeting of the Board of Governors of the World Bank and IMF by Ong Ken Sen's TheatreWorks, and also at the 2006 edition of Nuit Blanche in Paris. For the first time, at Tang Contemporary Art - Bangkok, Navins of Bollywood will be presented as a multifaceted storytelling environment.
