My poll 29 is inspired by many Thai short films I saw recently. I find that many Thai short filmmakers are great at making cult films or making films which remind me of some cult films. I don’t know exactly what “cult film” means, so I can’t guarantee that the films in the following list are cult films. But I can guarantee that there’s something in each of the films below which reminds me of some cult films.

I haven't watched it yet, but it sounds very interesting.
It sounds like some interesting Thai films have appeared since I left. Of course my choices were more limited in Chiang Mai. I am hoping that there will be an English subtitled DVD of The Sperm, but that possibility seems very remote. In the meantime, I finally saw Insee Thong which satisfied any need to see the new Batman film. Plus Mitr wears pants, not tights, and Insee Thong has the added bonus of a criminal gang of ladyboys.

และเมื่อตอนเย็น ผมก็มีโอกาสได้ดูโฆษณาของผงซักฟอกยี่ห้อบรีซ ซึ่งทำให้ตัวเองนึกถึงหนังเรื่องทวารยังหวานอยู่ขึ้นมาได้อีกครั้ง
เพราะเนื้อเรื่องของโฆษณาดังกล่าวก็มีอยู่ว่า มีเด็กชายคนหนึ่งกำลังเอามือขุดดิน/สนามหญ้าอยู่อย่างเอาจริงเอาจัง แม่ของเขาที่กำลังซักผ้าอยู่จึงถามขึ้นว่า ลูกจะขุดหาอะไร ลูกก็ตอบกลับไปว่า ขุดหาสมบัติ แม่จึงตอบว่า ถ้าอย่างงั้น ก็ไม่ต้องไปขุดหาก็ได้ เพราะสมบัติอยู่นี่แล้ว จากนั้นกล้องก็แพนไปทางด้านขวามือของเธอ ซึ่งมีคุณสมบัติ เมทะนี ผู้ใส่ชุดทองอร่าม ยืนยิ้มอยู่ แล้วคุณสมบัติ (เมทะนี) ก็พูดถึงคุณสมบัติของผงซักฟอกยี่ห้อนี้ไปตามระเบียบ 555
ซึ่งมันก็ทำให้ผมนึกถึงมุขที่ดังมาก ๆ และผมก็ชอบมาก ๆ ในทวารยังหวานอยู่ คือ มุขเรื่องบัดซบ/บัติซบ ที่ไม่รู้ว่าผู้กำกับ/คนเขียนบทเค้าคิดได้ยังไง
นอกจากนี้ผมยังรู้สึกสงสัยว่า ในประเทศ/วัฒนธรรมอื่น ๆ นั้น จะมีมุขตลกที่เล่น/หยอกล้อกับชื่อคนเหมือนในวัฒนธรรมไทยหรือไม่?
ซึ่งส่วนหนึ่งที่ทำให้คนไทยสามารถเล่นมุขเกี่ยวกับชื่อคนกันได้ ก็อาจเป็นเพราะชื่อของคนไทยจำนวนมากจะสอดคล้องกับคำศัพท์ที่มีความหมายที่ถูกใช้ในชีวิตประจำวันทั่วไป (อย่างไรก็ตาม ชื่อจริงของคนไทยรุ่นใหม่ ๆ ก็วิลิศมาหรามากขึ้น จนอาจนำมาเล่นมุขได้ยากมาก 555)ขณะที่ชื่อของคนทางยุโรปอาจจะไม่ได้มีที่มาจากศัพท์ที่ถูกใช้ในชีวิตประจำวันเสียทีเดียว แต่อาจจะมาจากชื่อของนักบุญทางคริสต์ศาสนาอะไรทำนองนั้นมากกว่า
I also hope that there will be an English subtitled DVD of THE SPERM. Actually, due to the rapid advancement of the downloading technology, I’m very optimistic that maybe in the next several years, anyone in the world who is connected to the internet may be able to download THE SPERM, and possibly all the Thai films in my lists, with English subtitles from the internet. We may not have to rely on the mercy of the DVD distribution companies anymore. Maybe in the next couple of years every independent filmmaker can distribute his/her films via the internet downloading.
I haven’t seen INSEE THONG yet. Mitr Chaibancha stars in about 230 films, but I have seen only one film of his-- 5 PAYAK SAO (1967, Rangsee Tasanapayak, A+), which is about five criminal girls who later succumbs to the charm of a handsome policeman (Mitr Chaibancha). What is interesting in this film is that these criminals yield to the policeman not because the policeman is stronger, tougher, cleverer, or fight better, but they yield to the policeman just because the handsome policeman kisses them.
My friend said that he saw an old Thai cult film which he likes very much. Unfortunately, he can’t remember the title of this old film. The film is about 4 or 5 Thai funny superheroes with nearly useless superpowers. One of them has “sharp bottoms”. In one scene, all of them have to travel by a boat, but when this superhero sits on the boat, his sharp bottoms pierce through the boat, cause a hole, and nearly make the boat sink.
ยังไม่ได้ดูโฆษณา “บรีซ” เลย แต่ดีใจที่คุณปราปต์ชอบ “ทวารยังหวานอยู่” ผมก็ชอบมุก “บัดซบ” ในหนังเรื่องนี้เหมือนกัน มุกนี้ไม่ได้ทำให้ผมรู้สึกว่ามันตลกหรือน่าหัวเราะนะ แต่ผมชอบเพราะผมคิดว่ามันน่ารักดี และมันเป็นสิ่งที่ไม่รู้ว่าคิดออกมาได้ยังไงจริงๆ
คิดว่าหนังเรื่อง “ทวารยังหวานอยู่” อาจจะเป็นหนึ่งในหนังไทยที่คนต่างชาติ “เข้าใจ” ได้ยากที่สุด (แต่อาจจะ enjoy กับหนังได้ไม่ยาก) เพราะหนังเรื่องนี้เต็มไปด้วยการพาดพิงถึงสิ่งต่างๆในประเทศไทยที่คนต่างชาติอาจจะไม่รู้จัก อย่างเช่นเรื่องประวัติของนายกทักษิณสมัยก่อนจะมาเป็นนายก ถ้าหากจะมีการทำหนังเรื่องนี้ออกมาเป็นดีวีดีเพื่อขายในต่างประเทศ สิ่งที่จำเป็นมากๆก็คือการมี AUDIO COMMENTARY เพื่อบรรยายให้ชาวต่างชาติฟังว่า แต่ละฉากในหนังเรื่องนี้มันพาดพิงถึงอะไรบ้าง
พูดถึงมุกตลกต่างชาติต่างภาษาแล้ว สิ่งที่อยากรู้มากๆก็คือว่า หนังเรื่อง DREAMSHIP SURPRISE: PERIOD 1 (2004, Michael Herbig, Germany, B-) มันเต็มไปด้วยการเล่นคำภาษาเยอรมันหรือเปล่า เพราะผมได้ดูหนังดังที่ทำเงินสูงในเยอรมนีเรื่องนี้ที่โรงเซ็นทรัล ปิ่นเกล้าในเวอร์ชันพากย์ไทย และผมก็พบว่าหนังเกย์อวกาศเรื่องนี้แทบไม่ตลกเลย และหนังก็ดูเหมือนจะเต็มไปด้วยบทสนทนาแปลกๆ ที่ผมไม่แน่ใจว่ามันหมายความว่ายังไงกันแน่ ผมก็เลยสงสัยว่าบางทีหนังเรื่องนี้อาจจะเต็มไปด้วยมุกตลกแบบเล่นคำภาษาเยอรมันหรือเปล่า ดังนั้นพอนำบทสนทนามาแปลเป็นภาษาอังกฤษและภาษาไทยแล้ว ความตลกมันก็เลยหายไปจนหมด ผมก็ไม่แน่ใจเหมือนกันว่าการที่หนังเรื่องนี้ทำเงินได้สูงที่เยอรมนีเป็นเพราะสาเหตุอะไร หรือบางทีผู้ชมกระแสหลักอาจจะเพียงแค่ชื่นชอบหนังแนวนี้ก็เป็นได้ โดยที่หนังเรื่องนี้อาจจะไม่ได้เต็มไปด้วยการเล่นคำเหมือนอย่างที่ผมตั้งข้อสงสัย
ข้อมูลใน IMDB บอกว่า DREAMSHIP SURPRISE: PERIOD 1 ใช้ทุนสร้าง 9 ล้านยูโร แต่ทำรายได้รวม 61 ล้านยูโรเฉพาะในเยอรมนี โดยส่วนตัวแล้ว ผมคิดว่าหนังเรื่องนี้ดูเละเทะพอๆกับหนังบางเรื่องของพจน์ อานนท์
