ชอบหนังเรื่องนี้มากๆเลย เราว่าหนุ่ม อรรถพรในเรื่องนี้น่ารักดี
ชอบสีหน้าของนางเอกในเรื่องนี้ เธอดูค่อนข้างแข็งและเย็นชาดี ไม่ใช่เย็นชาแบบคนไม่ดีนะ แต่เย็นชาแบบคนที่ไม่ค่อยมีปฏิกิริยากับผู้คนรอบข้าง

Ryosuke Hashiguchi follows up on his critically acclaimed debut Hatachi No Binetsu -- a film about gay hustlers -- with this emotionally honest film about growing up. Shuji Ito (Yoshinori Okada) is a gay high school senior in love with his best friend, the naïve and straight-laced Hiroyuki Yoshida (Kouta Kusano). Yet Ito is too afraid of messing up his friendship with Yoshida and destroying his persona as a "normal" high school student to tell him. Meanwhile, Yoshida as fallen for the new transfer student Kasane Aihara (Ayumi Hamazaki), who harbors her own dark secret -- a brutal rape has left her unable to respond to anything sexual. Her classmates' usual schoolgirl politics bore her and she bluntly tells them so. At the same time, shy Ayako Shimizu (Kumi Takada) has fallen for Yoshida while Aihara finds herself strangely drawn to Ito. She senses his secret, which, however much he tries to maintain his facade, sets him apart.

--สำหรับ SPIDER-MAN 3 นั้น พี่คิดว่าพี่อาจจะเป็นคนเดียวที่ชอบภาคนี้มากที่สุดใน 3 ภาค ไม่รู้มีใครรู้สึกแบบเดียวกันหรือเปล่า แต่สำหรับพี่นั้นมันเป็นเรื่องปกติแล้วที่ความชอบของพี่ที่มีต่อหนังเรื่องต่างๆมักจะไม่ตรงกับคนทั่วๆไป ซึ่ง SPIDER-MAN 3 ก็เป็นตัวอย่างหนึ่งของกรณีนี้
ในความรู้สึกส่วนตัวของพี่นั้น SPIDER-MAN 3 เป็นภาคที่ทำให้พี่มีความสุขที่ได้ดูมากที่สุดและรู้สึกอินมากที่สุด ซึ่งพี่เดาว่าสาเหตุที่ทำให้พี่รู้สึกอินมากที่สุดกับภาคนี้อาจจะเป็นเพราะว่า
1.ภาคนี้มีผู้ร้ายหลายตัว และพี่ชอบหนัง/ละครที่มีผู้ร้ายหลายตัว เพราะมันทำให้นึกถึงชีวิตจริงของพี่ ที่ในบางครั้งก็ต้องรับมือกับปัญหาหลายด้านในเวลาเดียวกัน สับสนปนเปกันไปหมดจนอยากจะร้องกรี๊ด
2.อีกสาเหตุนึงที่ทำให้พี่ชอบหนังที่มีผู้ร้ายหลายตัว อาจจะเป็นเพราะว่าพี่มักจะมีอารมณ์ร่วมกับฝ่ายผู้ร้ายมากกว่าฝ่ายพระเอกนางเอก และชอบดูเรื่องราวชีวิตของผู้ร้ายมากกว่าเรื่องราวชีวิตของพระเอกนางเอกเพราะฉะนั้นหนังประเภทที่มีผู้ร้ายกลุ่มเดียวปะทะกับพระเอก จึงทำให้พี่รู้สึกเบื่อ เพราะหนังมันจะให้เวลากับผู้ร้ายไม่มากเท่าไหร่ ส่วนหนังที่มีผู้ร้ายหลายตัวนั้น หนังมันจำเป็นต้องเจียดเวลาให้กับบรรดาผู้ร้ายเยอะหน่อย ก็เลยทำให้พี่รู้สึกเพลิดเพลินกับมันได้มากยิ่งขึ้น
3.พี่รู้สึกว่า SPIDER-MAN 3 เป็นหนังที่มีข้อบกพร่องเยอะมาก แต่มันให้ความบันเทิงแบบไร้สาระเหมือนอ่านการ์ตูนที่ไม่ค่อยมีเหตุผลสักเท่าไหร่ ซึ่งจุดนี้อาจจะเป็นข้อเสียที่ร้ายแรงในสายตาของคนอื่นๆ แต่ไม่ใช่ข้อเสียในสายตาของพี่ เพราะพี่สามารถรู้สึกเพลิดเพลินได้กับหนังที่ไม่ค่อยมีเหตุผลในสไตล์แบบหนังเรื่องนี้
4.สิ่งที่สำคัญที่สุดที่ทำให้พี่ชอบ SPIDER-MAN 3 ก็คือ พี่ไม่รู้ว่าพี่อุปาทานไปเองหรือเปล่า แต่พี่รู้สึกว่า SPIDER-MAN 3 ไม่ค่อยมี “สิ่งที่พี่เกลียดชังมากๆ” 2 อย่างที่ปรากฏอยู่ใน 2 ภาคแรก ซึ่งสิ่งที่พี่เกลียดชังมากๆก็คือ “การยัดเยียดอารมณ์ซาบซึ้งในแบบที่พี่ไม่ต้องการ” และ “การเชิดชูคุณธรรมความดีงามในแบบที่พี่ไม่ต้องการ” พี่รู้สึกว่าไอ้สองอย่างนี่แหละ ที่ทำให้พี่ชอบ SPIDER-MAN ภาคแรกแค่ในระดับ B+ และชอบ SPIDER-MAN ภาคสองแค่ในระดับ A- เท่านั้น พี่รู้สึกว่าสองภาคแรกมันมีความซาบซึ้งในแบบที่พี่รังเกียจ และมันมีการเชิดชูคุณธรรมความดีงามในแบบที่พี่รังเกียจ พี่รับไม่ได้กับประโยคประเภท “WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY” หรืออะไรทำนองนี้ ดังนั้นพี่ก็เลยรู้สึกดีใจมากที่ SPIDER-MAN 3 ออกไปทางการ์ตูนเทิ่งมงไร้สาระ และลดความซึ้ง+การสั่งสอนคุณธรรมลงไป
แต่พี่ก็ไม่ได้ต่อต้านการสร้างอารมณ์ซาบซึ้งและการเชิดชูคุณธรรมความดีงามนะ พี่บอกไม่ถูกเหมือนกันว่าทำไมหนังบางเรื่องพี่รับในจุดนี้ได้ แต่หนังบางเรื่องพี่รับในจุดนี้ไม่ได้ อย่างเช่นใน THE LIVES OF OTHERS นั้น พี่รู้สึกซึ้งมากๆที่ตัวเอก “ทำดีด้วยการทรยศต่อหน้าที่และความรับผิดชอบของตัวเอง” แต่พี่กลับรับการเชิดชูความดีงามใน SPIDER-MAN สองภาคแรกไม่ค่อยได้
ส่วนใน SPIDER-MAN 3 นั้น มันก็มีอะไรซึ้งๆเหมือนกัน แต่พี่กลับรู้สึกซึ้งไปกับมันด้วย ไม่ได้รู้สึกต่อต้านมันมากเท่าไหร่ จุดที่พี่รู้สึกซึ้งก็คือการที่พระเอกกับเจมส์ ฟรังโกหันมาร่วมมือกันในตอนท้ายเรื่องเพื่อต่อสู้กับผู้ร้าย พี่มักจะรู้สึกซึ้งกับอะไรทำนองนี้แหละ
I hope someone will issue a DVD of The Sperm with English subtitles. At least I'm glad to know that I wasn't the only one who liked it.
By the way, since it can not be seen theatrically in Thailand, I am wondering if Syndrome and a Century will be made available by the neighborhood DVD vendors in Thailand around the time the DVD is released in the U.S. this January?

I haven’t seen THE KILLING OF A CHINESE BOOKIE, but I have seen the other four films in your list. I can’t remember the endings of MILLENNIUM MAMBO and ZERKALO (THE MIRROR), though. I think I have to watch ZERKALO again. As for MILLENNIUM MAMBO, I like the film a lot. I can remember the opening scene in which the actress walks along a corridor. It is quite an impressive opening scene.
The ending of MEMENTO is a good twist ending. And it makes you reflect on the film after you have just watched it. I like Christopher Nolan very much, especially his BATMAN BEGINS (2005). Actually I’m not a fan of BATMAN series, but BATMAN BEGINS gets the right tone or mood.
As for DAYS OF BEING WILD, its ending is quite strange. It ends with a new character—Tony Leung—grooming himself or something like that. Yeah, I think its ending is very impressive because it defies explanation.

I’m sure the illegal DVD copies of SYNDROMES AND A CENTURY will be available in Bangkok soon after the DVD is released in the USA. Hahaha.
SYNDROMES AND A CENTURY was just screened at ALLIANCE FRANCAISE in Bangkok in early November, but I didn’t go to see it, because I was busy with many things at that time, including the Fred Kelemen’s Retrospective and the Bangkok Theatre Festival. So when I found some free time and decided to call the organizer to book a ticket for SYNDROMES AND A CENTURY, they told me all the tickets had been fully booked. Anyway, if the illegal DVD business is still thriving in Thailand, I may have a chance to see this film in a few months from now.
I think at the end of this year many cinephiles in Bangkok will put SYNDROMES AND A CENTURY and LOVE OF SIAM in their favorite film list of 2007. These cinephiles saw SYNDROMES AND A CENTURY either in the press screening or in the screenings at ALLIANCE FRANCAISE. But my list will be different because I haven’t seen SYNDROMES AND A CENTURY, and I don’t like LOVE OF SIAM that much.
i like the opening sequence from Millennium Mambo, too, i like the movie very much as well. I bought the movie for myself (and watched) on new year's eve. The movie ends in Japan, at a snowy landscape, with a scene shot in early morning- (-if i remember correctly).

There’s one scene I like very much in MILLENNIUM MAMBO. It’s the scene when Shu Qi fell into the snow and left some marks on the snow, if I don’t remember it wrongly. I think this scene is in the middle of the movie, when the movie jumps forward to the scene in Japan.
I have seen only three films by Hou—MILLENNIUM MAMBO, CAFE LUMIERE, and CITY OF SADNESS. I like MILLENNIUM MAMBO the most, but I also give A+ to CAFE LUMIERE. I think CITY OF SADNESS is a very good film, but I can't follow its story in the first viewing.
If I can recommend a film for someone to watch during the New Year, I will recommend FROST (1997, Fred Kelemen), because the story in FROST takes place during Christmas-New Year. Unfortunately, FROST hasn't been released as DVD yet. :-(
