I like SANTA SANGRE (1989) very much. I think Alejandro Jodorowsky is very crazy, in a positive way. I also like EL TOPO (1970, Alejandro Jodorowsky, A+), and FANDO AND LIS (1968, Alejandro Jodorowsky). I like those weird Mexican cinema, including films by Carlos Reygadas and Arturo Ripstein. I wish I could see a Mexican film called ALUCARDA (1978, Juan Lopez Moctezuma), but haven’t got a chance yet.

I haven’t seen THE PARTY and THE HUSTLER, but your list makes me want to see them.

In LABYRINTH OF PASSIONS, I like one scene very much. It’s the scene when a middle-aged woman wanted to go to a bathroom, but was stopped in her way many times by various characters. This scene is unforgettable.

LIVING (1971, Frans Zwartjes) seems very interesting. I hope it will be released as DVD. Alain Robbe-Grillet films are also hard to find here in Bangkok, Thailand. I have seen only EDEN AND AFTER, and TRANS-EUROP-EXPRESS (1966, Alain Robbe-Grillet, A+). However, I’m glad Robbe-Grillet’s new film will be shown in the Venice Film Festival.

The first time I saw EDEN AND AFTER, it was shown without any subtitles, and I know no French, but I was still totally blown away by the strong images of the film. I had a chance to see it for the second time with English subtitles. The subtitles made me understand the movie more, but I think the subtitles hardly made me appreciate this film more, because I had already loved it the most already.

If you cannot find INDIA SONG with English subtitles, maybe you can find the play “INDIA SONG”, written by Marguerite Duras, in some bookstores. The content of the play and the film are 75% similar.

I have watched AGATHA AND THE UNLIMITED READINGS (Marguerite Duras, A+++++) without subtitles for two times. I understand nothing about this film, but DURAS’ images are so strong that her film never bores me in any second.

I love L’ARGENT very much. Sometimes I would like to watch L’ARGENT, and then watch BAISE-MOI, LOVELY RITA (2001, Jessica Hausner), LA CEREMONIE (Claude Chabrol), THE MATCH FACTORY GIRL (Aki Kaurismaki), MONSTER (Patty Jenkins), CAPOTE (Bennett Miller), CHARISMA (Kiyoshi Kurosawa), VENGEANCE IS MINE (Shohei Imamura), and VIOLENCE AT NOON (Nagisa Oshima). I think these ten films are feel-bad films which make me feel so good, or somehow they seems to touch the heart of darkness.

I really love NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET PART 3.

ฉากที่ชอบสุดๆในระดับ A+ ใน THE LAKE HOUSE คือฉากที่แซนดรา บุลล็อคนั่งคุยกับคีนู รีฟส์ว่าความฝันในวัยเด็กของเธอถูกทำลายไปได้อย่างไร และคำบอกเล่าของเธอเกี่ยวกับเรื่องราวที่เกิดขึ้นตอนอายุประมาณ 16 ปีทำให้เข้าใจได้เป็นอย่างดีว่าทำไมชีวิตของเธอจึงดูเหมือน “ไร้วิญญาณ” หรือ “ไร้ความฝัน” หลังจากนั้น น่าเสียดายที่ THE LAKE HOUSE ไม่มีฉากอื่นๆที่สามารถตีแผ่ความทุกข์ความเจ็บปวดในชีวิตนางเอกได้อย่างซาบซึ้งเท่าฉากนี้อีก และตอนจบของหนังเรื่องนี้ก็ดูฝืนมากๆ ความรู้สึกที่ชอบในระดับ A+ มาตลอดเรื่องก็เลยร่วงลงในตอนจบ
