EAT, FOR THIS IS MY BODY (A++++++++++)

FILMS SEEN ON FRIDAY

1.EAT, FOR THIS IS MY BODY (2007, Michelange Quay, Haiti, A+++++++++++++++)

Though I don’t understand many scenes in this film, I still think every scene in this film is very powerful. Maybe this film should be screened together with SHOCK TREATMENT (1973, Alain Jessua, A+), because both of them are metaphors about the exploitation of people who belong to different ethnic groups.

2.BHUMIKA (1977, Shyam Benegal, India, A+)
This film reminds me of some Thai novels I read when I was a child. These novels are about the unhappy life of a heroine who has marital problems. Maybe this film should be screened together with THONG PRAGAI SAED (1988, Chana Kraprayoon, Thailand, A), because the heroines of both melodrama films have many lovers.

3.THREE MONKEYS (2008, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Turkey, A)
I think this film is very enjoyable, but the ending is not satisfying for me. It’s funny to think that this film festival screens THREE MONKEYS, THAT DAY (2007, Jacob Berger, A), and THE HEADLESS WOMAN (2008, Lucrecia Martel, A+++++), because all of these three films are about car accidents, the guilt, and adultery, though the adultery theme is not important in THE HEADLESS WOMAN.

As for films about the guilt resulted from car accident, I think THE HEADLESS WOMAN is my most favorite. I also prefer THE HEADLESS WOMAN to RESERVATION ROAD (2007, Terry George, A+/A), but I still haven’t had a chance to see WOLFSBURG (2003, Christian Petzold, Germany).

4.SCAR 3D (2007, Jed Weintrob, outside the festival, A-)
I think this film has nothing really interesting, but I love Angela Bettis.

THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN (A-) ด้วย
