--Talking about Soviet Russia reminds me of this Russian clip. I’m not sure what this clip is, because I can’t read Russian, but I guess this clip is a song called THE BALLAD OF ANGELA, which is a part of a Soviet film called THE KING OF REINDEER (1969, Pavel Arsyonov). The actress in this clip is Valentina Malyavina, who also plays in IVAN’S CHILDHOOD (1962, Andrei Tarkovsky, A+), but the voice in this clip may be from a singer called Alla Pugashova.

--I’m very glad that THE GREEN RAY got the most votes, because this is one of my most favorite films of all time. However, I didn’t vote for this film, because in terms of “searching for happiness”, I’m not sure if the ending of this film corresponds to my idea of happiness.

I love the ending of this film very much. It makes me feel very great. I felt like crying in delight, like the protagonist of THE GREEN RAY, when I was watching the ending of this film. But I’m not sure why. I don’t understand why the ending of THE GREEN RAY can overwhelm me like that. Is it because at that moment Delphine has understood herself? Is it because at that moment Delphine has understood her heart? Is it because she can be at peace with herself? I’m not sure. But two things in that scene don’t correspond to my idea of happiness—the cute man and the green ray. According to my idea of happiness, Delphine should be happy, though she doesn’t find the green ray nor the cute man. Happiness shouldn’t depend on being loved by other people nor depend on some unnecessary things. But maybe the cute man and the green ray are not important in that scene. Maybe Delphine is happy because of other reasons, not because of these two things though they are present in the scene. I’m not sure about this thing.

Now I think I should buy a book in Kinokuniya Book Center in Siam Paragon. I notice that there’s a book called CLOSE UP 02, with an article on three films by Eric Rohmer—A GOOD MARRIAGE (1982), THE GREEN RAY, and AUTUMN TALE (1998). The article is written by Jacob Leigh. --The ending of VALERIE FLAKE corresponds to my idea of happiness. Valerie Flake finds a cute guy. They love each other. But he wants to have a child, while she doesn’t want it. --A Thai short film called DAA (SCORN) (2008, Maythus Sirinawin, A+) also reminds me of a way to be happy. In this film, some people are scoffed very badly, but they seem to be happy, no matter how bad other people talk about them. This film reminds me that to be hated is not always the cause of being unhappy. You can be hated, and still be happy, if you don’t care about those people who hate you.

I just knew from Thisisgis’ blog that Maythus Sirinawin has posted some of his short films in Youtube. Unfortunately, he doesn’t post DAA in Youtube.

I’m glad you like MALDOROR. I agree with you that the glowworm looks like a refugee from David Lynch’s film. Hahaha. I couldn’t follow the story of LA FIN DE NOTRE AMOUR in the first viewing. Maybe I should give it a second chance. I like that the female character in this film has a blank black face. It gives such a weird feeling.

Mat, thank you very much for your information. I wonder if there will be a feminist response to “77 TESTICULAR IMPRINTS”. But I like Rachel Lachowicz’s response to Yves Klein very much. Hahaha.

Nam Jun Paik is a very interesting artist. I first saw his work last year when Thammasat University Library showed his video called GOOD MORNING, MR. ORWELL (1984, A+). This video is a little bit funny and seems to show some interesting aspects about television broadcasting. Many great artists appear in this video, including Laurie Anderson, John Cage and Oingo Boingo.

I just went to see the exhibition ARTSPACE GERMANY at Silpakorn University last weekend. The exhibition includes two works by Nam Jun Paik: “Internet dwellers: jswg.dreizehn.xulf” (1997, video sculpture, A+) and CANDLE TV (1975, object installation, A+). I love CANDLE TV very much. It seems like a sacred object. As for INTERNET DWELLERS, I think the 7-minute video is not very interesting now, but it might be very interesting back in 1997. However, I like the sculpture very much.

ดิฉันก็คิดไม่ออกเหมือนกันว่าตัวเองอยากดูหนังเกี่ยวกับการเมืองไทยที่มีเนื้อหาอย่างไรในช่วงนี้ ดิฉันรู้สึกว่าตนเองลดความสนใจที่จะแสดงความคิดเห็นทางการเมืองลงไปมากพอสมควรในระยะนี้ ซึ่งอาจจะเป็นเพราะว่าช่วงนี้ดิฉันกับเพื่อนๆมักจะมีความคิดเห็นค่อนข้างตรงกัน นั่นก็คือ “เกลียดสมัคร” เพราะฉะนั้นในเมื่อคนรอบข้างมีความเห็นตรงกับดิฉัน และคนรอบข้างก็ได้แสดงความคิดเห็นและระบายความรู้สึกเหล่านั้นออกมาแล้ว ดิฉันก็เลยรู้สึกพึงพอใจและก็ไม่รู้สึกว่าตนเองต้องแสดงความเห็นซ้ำกับคนอื่นๆอีก และก็รู้สึกว่าตนเองใจเย็นลงเยอะในช่วงนี้ ซึ่งความรู้สึกแบบนี้ตรงข้ามกับในปี 2007 เพราะในปีนั้นมีหลายๆคนรอบข้างดิฉันที่ชื่นชอบคมช. แต่ดิฉันไม่ค่อยเห็นด้วยกับพวกเขาสักเท่าไหร่ การต้องตกอยู่ในสถานการณ์แบบนั้นก็เลยทำให้ดิฉันรู้สึกอึดอัดคับข้องใจและใจร้อน และเหมือนเป็นแรงกระตุ้นให้ดิฉันสนใจในเรื่องการเมืองมากยิ่งขึ้น

หนังเรื่องนี้แทบไม่ได้ให้รายละเอียดอะไรเกี่ยวกับชาย 3 คนนี้เลย ก็เลยเปิดโอกาสให้ดิฉันสามารถจินตนาการเรื่องราวของชาย 3 คนนี้ได้เต็มที่ พอหนังเรื่องนี้จบแล้ว ดิฉันก็เลยจินตนาการเรื่องราวเล่นๆว่า อยากให้หนึ่งในชาย 3 คนนี้เป็นลูกชายที่มีแม่เป็นอัมพาต เขาเดินทางไปตามหมอให้มาช่วยรักษาแม่ แต่เขากับหมอก็ถูกกลุ่มหลิวเต๋อหัว/หลี่เหลี่ยนเจี๋ย/จินเฉิงอู่ ฆ่าตาย แม่ที่เป็นอัมพาตของเขาก็เลยได้แต่รอแล้วรอเล่า รอหลายวันหลายคืน ลูกชายก็ไม่กลับมาเสียที จนในที่สุดนางก็เลยตายตามลูกชายไป

ไม่รู้ว่าหนังเวอร์ชัน 4 ชั่วโมงจะมีรายละเอียดของเด็กอ้วนคนนี้หรือเปล่า แต่ตัวละครเด็กอ้วนเป็นตัวละครที่กระตุ้นจินตนาการของดิฉันมากที่สุดในเรื่องนี้ เพราะดิฉันไม่แน่ใจว่าเด็กอ้วนคนนี้อยากร้องเพลงมากแค่ไหน ดิฉันก็เลยจินตนาการเล่นๆหลังดูหนังเรื่องนี้จบว่า จริงๆแล้วเด็กอ้วนคนนี้อยากร้องเพลงมาก พอมิวไม่ยอมมาซ้อม เด็กอ้วนคนนี้ก็เลยดีใจที่จะได้โอกาสเป็นคนร้องเพลงเอง เขาตั้งใจฝึกซ้อมร้องเพลงอย่างมากและใฝ่ฝันที่จะได้ขึ้นเวทีร้องเพลง แต่ในที่สุดฝันเขาก็สลายเมื่อมิวมาขึ้นเวที เขาต้องยอมรับกับความจริงว่าเขาเป็นได้แค่ "ตัวสำรอง" เท่านั้น หลังจากนั้น ในงานเลี้ยงรุ่นแต่ละปี เมื่อเขาได้เห็นหน้ามิวครั้งใด เขาก็จะหวนนึกถึงเหตุการณ์ฝันสลายครั้งนั้นทุกครั้ง

Thanks for your kind words, Zeren. I have just watched KEEP IT REAL DOG after I read your recommendation. I like it a lot. I don’t actually understand what the characters are saying, because my English listening comprehension is very bad. But I like the way the characters are saying. The intonation or the accent of their talks is very funny to me. The style of the film is very different from all the animations I have seen. I think I can call it a rapper-style animation, which is something new to me.

After I watched KEEP IT REAL DOG, I would like to put it into an unintentional TRILOGY OF VICIOUS ANIMAL ANIMATIONS.

A document of the Yoko Ono retrospective art show with John Lennon as guest artist, "This is not here" held at Everson Museum, New York, 1971. This film is about a family who run a hotel in the far north of Thailand. They kill many guests of the hotel to steal the guests’ money. Unfortunately, one of the guests they kill is their own long-lost son. The film is inspired by a writing of Albert Camus.

This film is about the lives of three women. One of them is obviously abnormal. The other two might be secretly insane.

ฮ่าฮ่าฮ่า ไม่แน่ใจเหมือนกันค่ะว่า PRETENTIOUS CINEMA ที่คุณพูดถึงหมายถึงหนังเรื่องไหน แต่โดยส่วนตัวแล้ว ดิฉันมักจะแยกไม่ค่อยออกค่ะว่าหนังเรื่องไหน PRETENTIOUS หรือไม่ PRETENTIOUS ปกติแล้วดิฉันมักจะไม่ค่อยรู้สึกว่าหนังที่ตัวเองดู PRETENTIOUS แต่สามารถบอกได้แค่ว่าหนังเรื่องนี้มัน “โดน” หรือ “ไม่โดน” ใจดิฉันมากน้อยแค่ไหนเท่านั้นเอง

หนังที่ดิฉันดูแล้วรู้สึกสงสัยว่ามันอาจจะ PRETENTIOUS ก็คือหนังไต้หวันเรื่อง SOMEWHERE OVER THE DREAMLAND (2002, CHENG WEN-TANG, B-) ซึ่งเป็นหนังโรแมนติกเหงาๆช้าๆ แต่ดิฉันดูแล้วรู้สึกไม่อินกับมันสักเท่าไหร่ ดิฉันรู้สึกว่ามันแสร้งเหงามากกว่า อย่างไรก็ดี ถ้าให้พูดกันตามตรงแล้ว การที่ดิฉัน “ไม่อิน” กับหนังเรื่องนี้ ย่อมไม่ใช่เหตุผลที่จะใช้ในการตัดสินได้ว่าหนังเรื่องนี้ PRETENTIOUS หรือไม่

ต่อมาดิฉันได้ดูหนังเรื่อง BLUE CHA CHA (2005, A+) ที่กำกับโดย CHENG WEN-TANG เหมือนกัน ดิฉันกลับพบว่าคราวนี้ดิฉันรู้สึกอินกับหนังช้าๆเรื่องนี้ของเขาเป็นอย่างมาก ซึ่งดิฉันก็ไม่แน่ใจเหมือนกันว่าเพราะอะไรความรู้สึกที่มีต่อหนังสองเรื่องนี้ถึงได้แตกต่างกันมากขนาดนี้ บางทีอาจจะเป็นเพราะว่า

1.หากมองในแง่ลบ ก็อาจจะมองได้ว่า CHENG WEN-TANG ยังคงเสแสร้ง แต่เสแสร้งเก่งขึ้นมาก เขามีทักษะความเชี่ยวชาญในการชักจูงอารมณ์ผู้ชมได้เก่งขึ้น ถึงแม้เขาอาจจะไม่ใช่ “ศิลปิน” จริงๆ

2. CHENG WEN-TANG ยังคงเหมือนเดิม แต่ความรู้สึกที่แตกต่างกันอย่างรุนแรงเกิดจากตัวดิฉันเอง เพราะดิฉันอาจจะอินกับเนื้อหาผู้หญิงบ้าใน BLUE CHA CHA มากกว่าเนื้อหาเหงาๆใน SOMEWHERE OVER THE DREAMLAND

--แต่ถ้าหากพูดตามรสนิยมส่วนตัวแล้ว หนังที่ดิฉันชอบสุดๆในชีวิต มักจะถูกผู้อ่านใน IMDB.COM เขียนประณามว่าเป็นหนังที่ PRETENTIOUS อยู่เสมอ ดังนั้นประโยคที่คนอื่นพูดว่า “หนังเรื่องนี้เสแสร้ง” จึงมีความหมายเท่ากับว่า “หนังเรื่องนี้น่าจะเหมาะกับดิฉันมากๆ หรือ มีโอกาสสูงมากที่หนังเรื่องนี้จะให้ความสุขอย่างสุดๆแก่ดิฉัน” ฮ่าฮ่าฮ่า

สรุปว่าดิฉันไม่สนใจหรอกค่ะว่าหนังเรื่องไหนจะเสแสร้งหรือไม่เสแสร้ง, ดีหรือเลว, เป็นศิลปะหรือเป็นขยะ ดิฉันสนใจแค่ว่าหนังเรื่องนั้นให้ความสุขแก่ดิฉันหรือไม่เท่านั้นเอง และดิฉันก็พบว่าหนังหลายเรื่องที่ถูกคนอื่นด่าว่าเสแสร้ง หรือหนังที่ถูกคนอื่นๆด่าว่าเลวหรือน่าเบื่อ มักจะเป็นหนังที่ให้ความสุขแก่ดิฉัน

ได้เข้าไปดูคลิปจากภาพยนตร์อาร์เจนตินาเรื่อง THE DARK SIDE OF THE HEART (1992, ELISEO SUBIELA) แล้วค่ะ เป็นคลิปที่ชอบมากๆ โดยเฉพาะจังหวะที่นางเอกเดินผ่านแสงไฟมาหาเขา ฉากการเดินนี้ถ้าหากอยู่โดดๆ มันจะไม่ทรงพลัง แต่พอฉากนี้มาอยู่ต่อจากฉากการอ่านบทกวี มันกลับทำให้ฉากนี้ดูขลังอย่างสุดๆ ผู้กำกับหนังเรื่องนี้เก่งจริงๆ

พูดถึงหนังอเมริกาใต้แล้ว ก็นึกถึงผู้กำกับหนังชาวบราซิลคนหนึ่งที่ชื่อ ROGERIO SGANZERLA ดิฉันอยากดูหนังของเขามาก แต่ยังหามาดูไม่ได้ พอลองค้นใน YOUTUBE ดูก็พบว่ามีคลิปจากภาพยนตร์เรื่อง COPACABANA MON AMOUR (1970) ของเขาให้ดูด้วย สามารถดูได้ที่นี่ค่ะ

ชอบคลิปนี้มากๆเหมือนกัน เพราะมันดูบ้าดี คลิปข้างบนนี้เป็นฉากโซเนีย ซิลค์ โสเภณีซึ่งเป็นนางเอกของเรื่องทำเดินพล่านไปพล่านมาในหมู่บ้าน แล้วในหมู่บ้านของเธอก็มีตัวประกอบชิบหายๆอยู่ด้วย และสิ่งที่ชอบมากๆในคลิปนี้ก็คือฉากนางเอกเดินไปตามถนน แต่มีตัวละครบ้าอะไรก็ไม่รู้ทำพึ่บพั่บอยู่ใต้ผ้าและตามนางเอกไปเรื่อยๆ

ตัวละครสำคัญอีกคนใน COPACABANA MON AMOUR คือน้องชายของโซเนียซึ่งเป็นเกย์ และมีนิสัยชอบดมกางเกงในของเจ้านายของเขา

ช่วง 30 นาทีแรกรู้สึกชอบหนังเรื่องนี้ในระดับประมาณ A- แต่พอถึงฉาก “โรงละครผ้ากันเปื้อน” ดิฉันก็ร้องไห้อย่างรุนแรงมากและความชอบก็พุ่งปรี๊ดปรอทแตกในทันที

6.THE HUNGER YEARS: IN A LAND OF PLENTY (1980, JUTTA BRUECKNER, A+++++++++++++++)
ดูแล้วร้องไห้ในฉากที่พ่อนางเอกเล่าถึงช่วงเวลาราว 14 ปีที่ชีวิตเขาพินาศย่อยยับ โดยที่ในฉากนี้ผู้ชมจะไม่ได้เห็นภาพย้อนอดีตหรือเห็นปากพ่อนางเอกขยับเลย ผู้ชมจะได้ยินเสียงพ่อนางเอกเล่าเหตุการณ์ในอดีต และเห็นภาพของพ่อนางเอกเตะฟุตบอลอยู่คนเดียวข้างถนนอย่างเหงาๆ

7.THE SHUTTERS (2005, LYECE BOUKHITINE, A+++++++++++)
ตอนแรกรู้สึกอยากตัดคะแนนหนังเรื่องนี้ เพราะหนังเรื่องนี้มัน “จงใจ”มากๆที่จะสร้างความซึ้ง แต่ต่อมาดิฉันก็พบว่าเมื่อใดก็ตามที่ดิฉันคิดถึงหนังเรื่องนี้ ดิฉันก็อยากจะร้องไห้ออกมา เพราะฉาก “การถ่ายทอดความโทมนัส” ระหว่างหญิงสองคนที่ไม่รู้จักกันในหนังเรื่องนี้มันกินใจดิฉันอย่างสุดๆ ในที่สุดดิฉันก็ไม่สนใจอีกต่อไปว่าหนังเรื่องนี้มัน “จงใจ” จนเกินงามหรือไม่ เพราะสิ่งที่สำคัญสำหรับดิฉันก็คือว่าหนังเรื่องนี้มันสามารถครอบงำหัวใจดิฉันได้สำเร็จจริงๆ
